As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our school community, it is timely to recognise how quickly things can change. Our school community is using the Queensland COVID-19 planning framework provided by the Department of Education in order to be prepared and respond to the potential impacts of COVID-19 Lockdown to ensure the continuity of learning for our students.

Tony Cook Director General has advised that during this lockdown, schools will remain open for children of Essential Workers.

We will continue to communicate with you via Newsletter, Facebook, Seesaw and Global Text Message. You should continue to monitor Queensland Health messaging and updates about community COVID guidelines.

Dear Parents and Carers of Mudgeeraba Special School Community,

PLEASE CLICK ON THE BLUE LINK ABOVE TO INDICATE YOUR ELIGIBILITY OF ESSENTIAL WORKER STATUS.

We now know that all students will participate in a home based learning model due to lockdown from Monday 2nd August 2021 to help reduce the spread of COVID 19.

From the start of Week 4 until Tuesday 3 August 2021 inclusive, all students will be learning from home, except for students in the following categories.

Children of single parents and couples of essential workers on days when they are not able to be supervised at home and no other arrangements can be made. Essential worker means any worker who must continue to attend their workplace for essential business during this time. Should your child show any sign of sickness they should remain at home.

Vulnerable children include children identified by schools or who:

• are currently receiving services from Child Safety, including children who are subject to a child protection order.

• are subject to a youth justice order.

• children in designated Indigenous communities.

Where the student is learning at home, the parent or carer is responsible for the student’s safety and wellbeing at home or elsewhere.

Advice regarding the model of learning for the remainder of the lockdown period, will be provided by the Mudgeeraba Special School and department by Monday 2nd August.

What you need to do by Sunday 1st August 2021 at 11 am:

1. If your child fits into one of the above categories and will be attending school, activate the email link in Schoolzine Newsletter forwarded today and reply by Sunday 1st August to advise the school if you meet the Essential Worker and advise only if your child is attending school.

2. Identify what days your child will be attending school each week according to your essential work requirements.

3. If your child meets the criteria as outlined above and is attending school and receives transport assistance, you must contact Metro bus company by Sunday 1 August and let them know your child is attending school and on what days.

4. School support will look different during this time.

5. Each day we will review, and will ask parents to advise the school if they require their child to be supervised at school during this period if circumstances have changed.

6. Please be prepared that you will be receiving a Newsletter containing further information for learning materials. Be aware we are exploring the most ideal cycle to support your community learning.

Sincere thanks again for your ongoing support by adapting to the changes and challenges in front of all of us right now on a daily basis - it certainly is greatly appreciated in order to ensure the wellbeing of students, staff and community.

Covid Guidelines Weekly Updates

Stop the Spread of COVID-19

Maintaining the required hygiene and physical distancing measures in place in our school. These are our most effective ways to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Any person who is sick (staff, student or parent) should stay home and if they have any COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, get tested.

Symptoms of COVID-19 can include:

Fever
Cough
Sore throat
Runny nose
Loss of taste or smell
Tiredness and muscle aches
Vomiting and/or diarrhoea
Shortness of breath

If students or staff present at school as unwell we will follow up and request an imediate early departure until a medical clearance is provided and confirmation that the person is well.

We need to ensure we stay home if recurring flu like symptoms present to decrease the spread of influenza.
