The Premier's Reading Challenge is an annual state wide initiative for schools and home-educated students. It is not a competition, it aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read for pleasure and learning.
Mudgeeraba students can successfully complete this challenge either by engaging in a shared reading experience with a caregiver or by independently reading 20 books before 27th August 2021. All students who complete the challenge will receive a Certificate of Achievement signed by the Premier of Queensland.
We have added a printable copy of the Individual Readers Record should you wish to print it at home. These forms are also available in hard copy at the school administration desk.

Positive Behaviour for Learning - Pyjama Day
On Thursday 24th June our school will hold a whole school Positive Behaviour for Learning celebratory event. Please allow your children to wear their Pyjamas to school to join in the fun! Staff and students will enjoy the fun of being cosy at school and wearing their pyjamas to demonstrate the explicit teaching value of the week, We Follow Instructions.
January, at Roselands
If you’ve been following Chappy Chat, you’ll notice that I focus heavily on relationships and friendships. You can’t have too many friends, and you can’t have too much kindness in your life. I’m reminded of this every time I think about a mate of mine, from when I was only about twelve.
Roselands, was a shopping town, like Pac Fair or Robina Town Centre. It was about a 10 minute walk from my house, and as kids, we used to walk up there just to hang out. One particular day, a mate of mine and I, went to Roselands so I could buy something that I’d saved for: a single of January, by Pilot.
Now I know, you’re probably wondering, “What’s January, by Pilot?”. When I was growing up, there wasn’t any such thing as iTunes, or Streaming Services, so if you wanted to own your own copy of a song you’d heard and liked on the radio, you bought a vinyl record, called a, ‘single’. And January, was my favourite song at the time, by a band called, Pilot. So up we went, straight to the record store, and I bought, January, by Pilot. I was chuffed, and couldn’t wait to get home to play it a hundred times. But things were about to put a stop to that.
On the way out of Roselands, we decided to play a few games of pinball (hopefully, I won’t have to explain that one!). Our favourite pinball machine, was a bowling game, and it stood right at the bottom of the ‘Raindrop Fountain’ escalators, along with two other machines. That day, I was on fire, and was notching up an impressive score. My mate watched on, and cheered as I cracked a free game! I was on a roll, a-flipping and a-flapping (no such thing as flapping, I know!), and owning every inch of the game. We hi-fived each other when the game ended, and I was the pinball king of the moment. Still hi-fiving as we left, I felt invincible. Until about a third of the way home.
“Hang on, wait a minute!” I stood motionless for a split second. “Where’s my single?” I had left January, by Pilot, in its paper bag on top of the bowling pinball machine, and in my excitement forgot to pick it up before we left. My mate and I ran all the way back to Roselands, and headed for the pinball machine, only to find that it wasn’t there – someone had nabbed it. After asking at the information desk, and doubling back to the record store, the realization sank in – I had lost January, by Pilot.
As a kid, $1.49 to buy anything in those days, was a big investment, especially, when you stupidly spent the money, then lost the very thing you just bought. How could I have been such a doofus?
Have you ever had those moments, when something or someone came to your rescue, right when you needed it most? Right when you didn’t do a thing to deserve it, you got some grace? Or better still, someone replaced your copy of January, by Pilot? While we were both still at the record store, my mate, pulled out $1.49, of his own money, and bought me another copy of January, by Pilot! All he said, after I asked him, was, “I dunno, I just wanted to!”
And I guess, that’s what friends do – they do kind stuff, because they want to. There doesn’t seem to be any cost when real mates jump into action. There doesn’t seem to be any hesitation when friends care. And recently, I’ve had many friends do just that for me during some tough times.
My mate taught me a lot that day. He taught me about the attitude behind mate-ship, and I’ve never forgotten him for it. Who would’ve thought, that January, by Pilot, at a Roselands, would stand out like it did. But it does, and it did.
January, at Roselands. Who would’ve thought!
