On Friday 4th June we held our Annual Burleigh Fun Walk Event. Staff and students had a wonderful day spent with families and community members during the event. The weather was perfect for the walk with School Fun Run providing a mascot, Chase the Cheetah, and a large inflatable arch due to MSSS fundraising over $10,000 last year. This year, fundraising has totalled and incredible $14,564.98! Thank you to every who has contributed towards fundraising for our new Sensory Stimulation Centre (playground upgrade) and bus replacement, every cent counts. Please log on to your profiles and order your prizes if you raised $10 or more. Thank you to Miami Surf Life Saving Club for donating the sausage sizzle, loaning us some tents and sending volunteers to cook. Thank you to Metro buses for supporting the safe return of students back to school in the afternoon. The HPE committee are looking forward to our next HPE event, Sports Day which will be occuring in term 3.
Positive Behaviour for Learning

You can assist your young person to acquire or grow these skills by encouraging behaviours that seek permission for objects and activities. When out in the community you can encourage independence and return to caregiver skills. This can be carried out when grocery shopping, by asking your young person to obtain a certain item, which is required but perhaps in another aisle or further down the aisle, and return to you and place the item in the trolley.
Please find attached permission approvals if you have not completed. These assist us with our school planning and marketing of quality education and to keep students safe eg sunscreen and insect repellant.
21st May - 27th August 2021
The Premier's Reading Challenge is an annual state wide initiative for schools and home-educated students. It is not a competition, it aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read for pleasure and learning.
Mudgeeraba students can successfully complete this challenge either by engaging in a shared reading experience with a caregiver or by independently reading 20 books before 27th August 2021. All students who complete the challenge will receive a Certificate of Achievement signed by the Premier of Queensland.
We have added a printable copy of the Individual Readers Record should you wish to print it at home. These forms are also available in hard copy at the school administration desk.

In 2010, thirty three men, after a mining accident in Chilli, were trapped 700m underground, for 69 days, before they were rescued. I don’t know about you but I’m a little bit claustrophobic, and an ordeal like that would have been the end of me.
Emergency officials, experts from NASA, and national navy submarine experts, were called upon to assist in the tricky rescue. The volatile mine would be nothing less than a challenge, and no doubt, one small mistake or miscalculation, could crush the miners to death. After 17 days of isolation, the miners managed to send up a note to the world above, with the message, “We are fine in the shelter, the 33 of us.” I can’t even begin to imagine the horror of being down there, knowing that the next gulp of the thin air they breathed, could be their last.
I’ve never been in such an extreme life-or-death situation, nor have I ever needed to be assisted in an emergency rescue. I can’t begin to think to know anything of the fear that these men must have been feeling. But I think that I can safely assume one thing: that they couldn’t help themselves, and their lives completely depended on the outside world above them.
Again, I can’t compare anything that’s ever happened to me to what these men experienced, but I know that I’ve been in situations where I needed help, and the task at hand was way beyond my abilities or expertise. It’s at those times that we could do with a little help, or, rely on our own strength and guile. I wish I could proudly proclaim that that’s exactly what I do, but I’d be lying. I will often pass the used-by-date, way before I ask for help. And it’s cost me. Maybe not in dollar terms, but in terms of well-being and heart stuff, I sometimes leave myself bankrupt. And the sad thing in many situations, is that I didn’t need to.
What is your go-to thing? Do you ask for help when you know you need it? Do you lean on a ‘lean on me’ mate when trying to live a lean life?
The men survived on small amounts of tuna, mackerel, and water, before their rescuers were able to replenish their supplies. Three rescue plans were put into action, with one finally breaking through to the men, but was found to be too small for safe rescue. Finally, on October 13th, 69 days later, the first miner was rescued and pulled to the waiting world above.
Sure, had the mine collapsed and the men were unable to get their mayday out, it may have been a very different story. But the world did know, and the world did notice the catastrophe, and the world did set about executing a rescue.
You may not exactly be trapped underground, but whenever you feel trapped under a heavy load, may I encourage you that help is always there. Even if you have to call NASA.
