In recognition of Harmony Day on Sunday 21 March it is an opportunity for all of us to reflect on how powerful relationships are in our homes, workplace and community. At Mudgeeraba Special School our staff have adopted a set of Norms and Values that I introduced to the school when I first arrived. We have updated these for 2021 to include the Open Roads of the Get Happier Project from the source of Connecting Habits of Choice Theory.
What I value about the Mudgeeraba Special School Community is that there is a strong culture of working harmoniously together for our students and each other.
The principle for Harmony Day cements that that belief of recognising and embracing diversity:
Everyone belongs.
Regards
Colleen Hope

Harmony Week and Bullying No Way Day
Wear Orange on Monday
Don't forget to wear orange on Monday for Harmony Week and Bullying No Way Day. Keep an eye out in next week's newsletter and on our school Facebook page for ways we recognised these key events as a school community.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
During Week 9 teachers will use data and formative assessment to reteach some or all of the concepts highlighted over the past three weeks.
WK6 - WE OWN OUR ACTIONS - During this week students were encouraged to own their behavioural actions whether they are positive or those behaviours which require additional assistance. Students may have engaged in discussion surrounding different options and strategies they could use to gain attention or express their frustrations.
WK7 - WE HELP OUR FRIENDS - During the school week our students were explicitly taught the skills that are required to help or peer tutor classmates with success. Students may have had opportunities to help their fellow classmates by obtaining items and objects for peers to complete tasks, or simply by sharing their reading skills and reading to a fellow classmate.
WK8 - WE USE MANNERS, WE USE POSITIVE WORDS - During the school week our students were encouraged to demonstrate the use of positive words and their manners when speaking to staff and their peers. Students will have been provided opportunities to use open roads communication methods such as giving a compliment or asking if they could undertake a chore to assist the class such as obtaining items and objects for peers to complete tasks (pencils or glue), or simply by saying please when requesting an item or thank you when they have received an item.
Parents we love it that you partner with our school community to continue the Positive Behaviour for Learning journey at home with your young people. As the skills explicity explored over the last 3 weeks such as:- owning our actions when we have made a mistake, helping our family, siblings and friends and using manners and positive words in the community enables a joyous household and are the foundations of building good relationships with all those around you.
The $180.00 payable Student Offer incorporates:
- Book list requirements
- Student Consumables
- Reprographics including printing
- Student Communication Diary
The Student Offer is based on the 40 school weeks. This Student Offer of $180.00 for whole school activities can be paid annually, by semester (2x $90.00), by term (4 x $45.00) or weekly (40 weeks x $5.00). A receipt will be forwarded and collected through the office or via student communication diary.
Classes will require further support for their individual user pays programs and will forward the details and invoice to you in writing once their projects have been approved through P&C Association and Administration, for example class cooking programs. These user pays programs will include: School Performances such as the one held yesterday, swimming, camps etc.
Swimming fees for 2021 will reflect the training required to cover instructors as per our departmental guidelines and we will only offer to select teams in 2021.
Non-payment of the school Student Offer may result in a need for alternative programming for your child. It is crucial for these programs to be successful that all families participate.
The School Offer
The School Offer payable for the year is available in the attached information and published on the schools website.
This also includes the updated Textbook Resource Allowance (TRA) component, which has been deducted to reduce the overall School Offer payable for Years 7 to 12.
The TRA
The Department of Education provides a Textbook and Resource Allowance (TRA) to assist parents with the cost of textbooks and other education resources including Skill Development and Certificate Courses preparation and delivery for all Years 7 to 12 students.
TRA will now be applied to reduce the cost of participation, thus the School Offer you receive will be the full cost of participation in the School Offer excluding the TRA granted to the school via our departmental budget.
School Performance Followup
All students attended the school performance yesterday "All Around The World" in good faith with the request that families follow through payment as soon as possible to assist with payment to the Schools Performance Team.
