World Teachers’ Day is a day for you to celebrate and be proud.
This year, despite major challenges, you have made sure education continues across our state and the country. It’s reinforced the significant role you play in the lives of children and students, their families and communities.
On World Teachers’ Day (30 October in Australia), celebrate being part of a remarkable profession and its bright future.
We sincerely thank our staff for their investment every day to ensure each student is succeeding.
It finishes State Education Week 2020
It's been an extraordinary year, so it's fitting that the theme for State Education Week 2020 will be Extraordinary Education.
Staff, students and families have banded together and done some extraordinary things this year.
At Mudgeeraba Special School we have:
- extraordinary staff
- extraordinary students
- extraordinary alumni
- extraordinary fun
- extraordinary education.
Students and Staff Wellbeing:
Families it is vital that if students are unwell that we support their wellbeing at home. We have had cases of tummy upsets and colds and we want to minimise the impact on the students themselves, their peers and their staff. Students or staff presenting with gastro related symptoms must be cleared at home for 48 hours before returning to school. We have had no cases in the last day reported to school. Public Health and our nurses implore us to employ rigorous hand washing practices and our cleaners are being even more diligent with our facilities cleaning regime.
School Payments:
As the end of the year we would greatly appreciate the finalisation of students school offer of $180 and an outstanding fees for events such as Graduation.
The department requests all schools move forward in the new school year with invoiced School Levies and we are drafting our proposal of the Student Resource Scheme for 2021 for P&C.
Thank you for supporting us with engaging community events again this week.
Regards
Colleen Hope

Daniel Morcombe Foundation:
We would like to see a future where all children and young people are provided with education, protection and support to be safe from abuse and risk of harm.
The Daniel Morcombe Foundation provides personal child safety education to children and young people to prevent abuse and promote lifelong health and wellbeing. We support educators, parents and carers through the provision of resources and education and also directly support young victims of crime.
Today the Mudgeeraba Special School community participated in a walk for the Annual Day for Daniel, Australia’s largest child safety awareness and education day. Students across the campus have been viewing key messages association with ‘keeping kids safe’ which aligns with the Health and Physical Education curriculum for Qld state schools. Students and staff wore red and walked one of three school and community routes in their class groups finishing the event with an ice block and disco in the assembly area.
Thank you to parents and carers for supporting your young people with fundraising for the School Fun Run in association with our Day for Daniel Event. We would like to congratulate everyone involved with the fundraising by concluding with a grand total of just short of $10,000 raised which will go to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and towards our playground upgrade project. For students raising money online, you will be notified by email that the only way to order your prize is through your profile page on the School Fun Run website. You can order prizes from today until the 6th of November.
If your young person has collected funds in cash, please send the cash and the back page of the Sponsorship Form in your young person’s communication book or to the school office as soon as possible. Please note if your young person has raised funds in cash only, they will still need to order their prizes online. Enjoy choosing from the many prizes there are on offer and thank you again to the Mudgeeraba Special School community for an exceptional effort in raising funds for this year’s event.
And more importantly upholding the message of the day of keeping students safe: Recognise, React, Report.
Covid Guidelines Weekly Updates
Stop the Spread of COVID-19
Maintaining the required hygiene and physical distancing measures in place in our school. These are our most effective ways to stop the spread of COVID-19.
In Term 4 we will maintain limiting large groups of adults onsite or outside personnel from outside agencies eg therapists. All contractors for work repairs will adhere to Departmental guidelines.
The greatest news today is to hear that Graduations can now support dancing as an activity.
We would like to clarify that if a member of your household is sick, you are not required to stay home unless you have received health advice to do so.
Any person who is sick (staff, student or parent) should stay home and if they have any COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, get tested.
Symptoms of COVID-19 can include:
- Fever
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Runny nose
- Loss of taste or smell
- Tiredness and muscle aches
- Vomiting and/or diarrhoea
- Shortness of breath
If students or staff present at school as unwell we will follow up and request an imediate early departure until a medical clearance is provided and confirmation that the person is well.
We need to ensure we stay home if recurring flu like symptoms present to decrease the spread of influenza.
Further information about COVID-19 testing is available via the link below:
If you have any questions, please call your doctor or call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84).
Positive Behaviour for Learning - Term 4 - Week 5
During week 5 our students will undertake explicit and incidental teaching to ask for help and to help familiar staff who support them. Students will learn to ask for help using key word signing, the core word chart or page 1a of a PODD. Learning to ask for help with difficult tasks ensures that anxiety levels remain low. The sense of accomplishment to help staff or peers who help us is a wonderful self esteem builder, students can help the classroom staff by packing away their lunch items or by helping to clean up after activities.
You can assist with this learning in a home -> school partnership by assigning a managemeable part of a task to your young person and let them know how much that helps you and the whole family. Perhaps it is the recycling, cutting up salad items for dinner or helping to pack the dishwasher which gives your young person a sense of pride.
On Wednesday the ‘All Stars’ Hospitality students were busy in the kitchen, experiencing what it is like to cater for a large event as part of an assessment towards gaining their Certificate 1 in Hospitality.
The students worked hard in preparing and delivering close to 90 lunch orders for students and teachers across the school and in return, we received such wonderful customer feedback.
Thank you to everyone who placed an order and supported our program throughout the year.
