Student Free Days Ministerial Announcement 10 and 11 December 2020
Your patience and flexibility during this pandemic have been extraordinary. This year will be remembered for many things, not least a year of challenge, uncertainty and great complexity.
Everyone has been affected by COVID-19. While many in our communities across the state have contributed to ensuring Queensland families remain healthy and safe, I think we all would agree our state school teachers and school staff have done an incredible job at leading our children’s education.
In recognition of their outstanding efforts during the pandemic, the Queensland Government has declared the last two days of Term 4, 2020, Thursday 10 December and Friday 11 December, 2020,be allocated as student free days. Schools will be closed on these days.
This will come as great news for those who are keen to begin their school holidays early. For some families, alternative arrangements will need to be made for the care of children on these two days.
You can view the updated school holiday and term dates and download the calendar at https://education.qld.gov.au/about-us/calendar/term-dates.
Educating our children is a team effort. On behalf of our teaching and school staff, I would like to thank you for your support and cooperation during this year.

Positive Behaviour for Learning - Term 4 - Week 2
During week 2 our students will look at this explicit teaching focus. Through incidental and explicit teaching scenarios during the teaching of the Health curriculum in teacher release time students will learn the importance of caring for their bodies, practising good hygiene with a particular focus on Covid Safe hand washing skills. Students understand the importance of sunscreen and being a SunSmart Super Hero in alignment with the Health and Physical Education Committee's initiatives.
The explicit teaching of these skills may be extended to setting an eating area, clearing away rubbish, disposal of compostable items in the correct bins, encouraging conversation or requests for assistance. Families can assist with this learning in a home/school partnership by modelling application of hand sanitiser when entering shops in the community and the washing of hands after all activities to ensure everyone in the community remains safe. Families can assist their young people with being Sunsmart by modelling the application of sunscreen when they go outside to work or exercise on the weekend.

Covid Guidelines Weekly Updates
Stop the Spread of COVID-19
Maintaining the required hygiene and physical distancing measures in place in our school. These are our most effective ways to stop the spread of COVID-19.
In Term 4 we will maintain limiting large groups of adults onsite or outside personnel from outside agencies eg therapists. All contractors for work repairs will adhere to Departmental guidelines.
We would like to clarify that if a member of your household is sick, you are not required to stay home unless you have received health advice to do so.
Any person who is sick (staff, student or parent) should stay home and if they have any COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, get tested.
Symptoms of COVID-19 can include:
- Fever
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Runny nose
- Loss of taste or smell
- Tiredness and muscle aches
- Vomiting and/or diarrhoea
- Shortness of breath
If students or staff present at school as unwell we will follow up and request an imediate early departure until a medical clearance is provided and confirmation that the person is well.
We need to ensure we stay home if recurring flu like symptoms present to decrease the spread of influenza.
Further information about COVID-19 testing is available via the link below:
If you have any questions, please call your doctor or call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84).
