1. Email from Central Office - Darren Wallwork
Hi Colleen
Thank you so much for the opportunity to be part of your yesterday’s visit.
I was very impressed with your school and the leadership team’s willingness to share their journey with us.
As I mentioned yesterday, consistency of practice, relationships, precision, engagement and love of learning were all things that came to mind as I walked through classrooms.
It is a credit to your own leadership over a long and sustained period of time that has developed this ongoing culture.
I look forward to sharing your success with others.
Loved meeting the three Liams and sharing their slime!!!
Regards
Darren Wallwork

I personally had the pleasure of walking and talking with Bree and Nicole. Their passion for students and commitment to each child experiencing success was evident. Thank you again for opening the doors of your school and allowing us as leaders to reflect on what it takes for every student in the South East Region to succeed.

Week | Event |
Week 8 |
Friday 4th September Student Free Day brought forward for 2020 |
Week 9 |
Friday 11 th September Students Only Sports Day |

This week, Mudgeeraba Special School celebrated National Science week for 2020. Students engaged in a range of activities through Age Appropriate Pedagogical Approaches aligned with the theme of Science week, “Deep Blue: Innovation for the Future of our Oceans”. The sound of the week sh- voice was explicitly and incidentally taught including core words such as ‘share’ and ‘show’ and fringe vocabulary such as ‘shell’, ‘shore’, ‘shark’, ‘ship’ and ‘shiny’. Activities across campus included dioramas, experiments with salt water density, making slime, lava lamps and volcanoes.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
During week 7 our students will engage with this teaching focus. Through explicit teaching scenarios students will learn the importance of looking after both the classroom environment and the local environment by placing their rubbish in the bin after eating or when out in the community and identifying items for the school recycling program and putting them in the correct allocated recycling bin.
You can assist this learning in a home to school partnership by directing your young person to undertake recycling in your own home. Your young person may be able to sort the items and bring aluminium cans, water and soft drink bottles to school to assist our recycling program. We encourage you to send your recyclables to school, which will assist our Community Partnerships and fundraising efforts.

NEXT STEPS ANNUAL DATA
2020 Early School Leavers survey
The Queensland Government is seeking the support of the school community for the annual survey of Year 10, 11 and 12 students who left school in 2019, before completing Year 12. This short, confidential survey collects information about what young people are doing the year after leaving school. The results of the survey help provide valuable information to improve services available to school leavers in the future.
Between August and September, these school leavers can expect to receive instructions to complete a web-based survey or a telephone call from the Queensland Government Statistician’s Office. Please encourage them to take part. If their contact details have changed, please assist the interviewer with their updated details or forward the survey to their new address so they can participate.
Thank you for your support of Next Step post-school destination surveys in 2020.
For more information, visit www.qld.gov.au/nextstep/ or telephone toll free on 1800 068 587.
