At Mudgeeraba State Special School the giftedness of each individual is held as a core value of everything we do. We proudly proclaim that, we see each student individually, we hear each student individually and we respond to the learning of each student individually. During the time of COVID it has looked very different to daily classroom teaching, we have worked tirelessly to meet the needs for students working in a different environment. As we settle back into the daily routine we are setting goals and meeting the targets we set together to ensure everyone is successful. As we go into the holidays we ask you to reflect on where your student is and what the big goals we want to achieve by the end of this year. If we are all working towards common goals, we can make magic happen.
At the start of term 3, we will get together during ICP and PFAP meetings to end the year on a high.
Celebration and Wellbeing.
Over the last few months parents, teachers and students have been experiencing significant emotional challenges with the COVID pandemic. The learning and adjustment curves have been massive, with a lot of changes to routine and learning new things quickly. We ask that everyone from parents, teachers and the whole school community to take the time to relax and take a break. Consider how to make your wellbeing a priority, so we can continue to be the best we can be for ourselves and everyone around us.
We have shown as a school community we could quickly adapt to new situations. Through this challenge we have built a range of strategies that will help us to be more resilient. What are the positive memories you will take away from this experience? Mine would be the quality time to spend on activities and being more present for everyone.
Thank you to everyone for making Mudgee magnificent and I wish you a weekend ahead.
Celebration of Learning.
We have seen a wonderful demonstration of learning this week at Mudgee, with one of our classrooms turning into a salon. I’m sure students know we all missed this luxury over the last 12 weeks.
At the start of the week an invitation was sent out, inviting staff to visit the Middle 10 Salon. If you didn’t go, you missed out on a fabulous experience. I’m sure they will take some bookings into week 10. My favourite experience was seeing some customers request nails but coming out with a full treatment because they couldn’t resist eyes, lips and nails (it may have helped when students communicated beautifully enticing us to do ‘more’). The rich learning experiences were perfectly centered around our oral language, social skills and English targets. The excitement of our Age Appropriate Pedagogies is so alive, we love the excitement to learning it brings to everyone.
Regards

Positive Behaviour for Learning - Week 10
During week 10 our students will look at this teaching focus in a number of ways. Through the explicit and incidental teaching, students will explore the skill of following instructions to complete curriculum tasks and engage safely in the playground. Teaching students to obey the road rules this term will be conducted by role play scenarios to provide students the ability to look for pedestrian crossings and to know to push the button at lights when they may be walking in the community.
Parents can assist with this learning in a home school partnership way by asking your young person to complete tasks that enable them to follow instructions such as unpack the dishwahser or fold the laundry. Should you and your young person go out into the community you could model safe practices of crossing the road crossing only at pedestrian crossings and other road safety skills such as standing still at the kerb when the red man is flashing.
This term Mudgeeraba Special School transitioned to a new platform for communication through Seesaw. This platform was used during home learning to provide personalised interactive activities to students along with the YouTube videos and learning packs. During the use of Seesaw during the home learning period, we saw the extent of the platform and received feedback supporting the permanent move to the platform. Seesaw has seen Class Dojo be phased out across the campus with the application being deleted and student profiles being archived on Monday 22nd of June, 2020. This will mean that if you have been using Class Dojo as a platform for communication, you will need to ensure that both you and your young person have been connected via Seesaw. If this is yet to occur, please contact your class teacher via your communication book, before or after school hours on 55593333 or in person to ensure the set up process can been completed.
Thank you Millers Espresso Mudgeeraba!
