Next Monday is School Cleaners' Day and we would be amiss not to celebrate and highlight how appreciative we have been of our Cleaning Team through this Semester and especially this Term. The additional support for through the day cleaning has brought a greater confidence to us all to ensure the school touch points are getting an extra sparkle.
Thanks to our team:
Leanne, Christine, Jessie, Sharyn, Alina, Vita, Wendy, Brendan, Laurie and John
I will be taking long service leave for the last two weeks of term to have time with my family. Natasha Marwick will be acting Principal during this time and Steve Dowlan was successful as Acting Deputy Principal in Natasha's place. Thank you for supporting our succession plan. I look forward to seeing everyone in Term 3.
Families have a wonderful winter break when it arrives on 26 June. Thanks to our staff for the generous effort of Term 2 it was one in one hundred years.
Regards
Colleen Hope

Positive Behaviour for Learning - Week 9
During week 9 our students will look at this teaching focus in a number of ways. Through the explicit and incidental teaching, students will explore the skill of patience by waiting for objects, items, assistance and for their turn to talk during class discussions. Teaching students to wait may help with the management of behaviours related to anxiety.
Parents can assist with this learning in a home school partnership way by asking your young person to wait for short periods starting with as little as 2 seconds and increasing the waiting time for items, objects and assistance depending on your young person’s concept of time.
This week senior school students brought in superhero or villain outfits as a culminating activity to enhance their learning experiences around their English and Mathematics units of work which were based on comics and superheroes and collecting data.
Activities included dramatic play, collecting tally data and forming graphs based on the various character dress ups. We investigated characters emotions when acting, and the various colours of the outfits when collecting data. In Leisure and Recreation, we also played a treasure hunt game in teams on the oval to find and catch all of the villains hidden.
It was a SUPER fun week of learning!
Curriculum Overviews for Week 9
Please see below the curriculum overviews and Age Appropriate Pedagogies Planning documents for week 9 to assist your continued home support.
If your young person is going to be away from school or going to be transported to school by you, it is your responsibility to notify Metro coaches or the taxi company that they will not be travelling on their contract transport. Please contact administration if you have not got the relevant contact details for your childs service and we will supply them. Thanks for your assistance.
Mudgeeraba State Special School is invested in supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of our students and their families. This term our staff have been have been training in the Get Happier Project.
The Get Happier Project is a comprehensive social and emotional learning program that aims to build mental health and happiness by creating a positive and relational school culture. It was produced by Ivan Honey and is based on the work of William Glasser.
In this program the students will learn to:
- Understand themselves and others better.
- Make and keep better relationships.
- Increase emotional intelligence.
- Improve self-esteem, mental health and resilience.
- Solve problems in a non-violent manner.
- Become more peaceful and fulfilled, and create their own inspired life.
The Get Happier Project provides information to parents to assist them to raise positive and empowered young people. We will share this information through the school newsletter, facebook page and also in MyTime sessions.
