Families this has been a very different time and we all need to reach out to each other to ensure we are there for each other. I have been humbled talking to families this week as you have navigated returning to school or continuing to support your family at home. If you need any assistance please in the first instance connect with your class teacher. We have added curriculum overviews for sectors across Juniors to Seniors to support families that are still at home till end of Term 2.
This week we have seen the finalisation of the new classroom space, replacement concertina doors in H, J, I, K and L Blocks as a regional and school project as a cost of $60 000 and supported by region to replace airconditioners in Junior Secondary 1 and Senior 3 classrooms. We have upgraded furniture in the new classroom and reading teepees for Middle 6 to 10 classrooms, Junior and Middle 1 - 4 outdoor space.
Reporting time for Semester One, 2020 will look different this year as together we have contributed to the learning continuity for your young person. Teachers are collating a learning at home celebration page, which highlights English and Mathematic achievements during the at home learning phase of Semester One. In alignment with the Department of Education Policy for COVID-19 reporting our teachers will report to families on the achievements of our young people from Semester One in English, Mathematics, Science and the Health and Physcial Education Movement Strand. Please forward via Seesaw any snapshots of either photo images or products that you have created to support this learning time together.
School Photo Day is Friday 12 June. Packages went home through your child's communication folder. You can return the envelope and money by Friday 12 June or on the envelope is a process to pay online prior to Friday.
I will be taking long service leave for the last two weeks of term to have time with my family. Natasha Marwick will be acting Principal during this time and Steve Dowlan was successful as Acting Deputy Principal in Natasha's place. Thank you for supporting our succession plan. I look forward to seeing everyone in Term 3.

Maintain Safe Practices To Be Maintained
Department Maintains Status Quo: The most important ways to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in the school environment are the same as in the broader community:
- Clean your hands regularly with soap and water as approved preferably or alcohol-based sanitiser.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or bent elbow when coughing or sneezing.
- Avoid touching your face, nose and mouth, and avoid shaking hands.
- Stay home if you are sick. This is the most important thing you can do. If you have any respiratory symptoms, please get tested for COVID-19.
- All adults practice social distancing, staying 1.5 metres away from others as much as you can.
Focus at School:
- We will improve fresh air circulation in classrooms and avoid air-conditioning.
- All excursions, assemblies, sporting activities and external visitors including therapists and after school support with CPL are cancelled till further notice as per departmental guidelines.
- We ask parents dropping and picking up students to wait outside the front gate and the ‘guide’ staff member/s at the gate will assist with handover of your young person. Drop off at front gate and pick up at side gate. Please monitor your youn person with car movements. This is to minimise the adult contact as per guidelines.
- If your young person is unsettled and you need to access the school please notify the ‘guide’ staff member/s or go to the front desk between 9 and 2-30 pm and use the hand sanitizer mobile stations, one at the front gate area near the Core word board and one outside the front office. Please do not go to your child's classroom. The front office staff will support your young person to the office.
- Students coming via taxi will enter and depart as per parent drop off and pick up.
- Approved Bus students will be supported as usual by teaching staff and we have modified the bus area replicating a road and move on the left hand side to ensure adult supervision of students and social distancing of adults.
- Staff have access to Protective Personal Equipment to support interactions when in close proximity to young people and their colleagues eg for supporting personal hygiene, mealtime management. As students requiring additional specialised health support needs return to school we will work together to create support plans. We are timetabling the use of B Block bathroom as our primary support room due to its size and we have ensured appropriate Disposal units for PPE.
- We have created sanitizer kits in addition to soap access in the classroom and bathrooms for each class to support facility hygiene. Our preference as per guidelines is for soap and water. Please find attached in the newsletter a santiser sign off and accompanying Safety Data Sheets for your information.
- Additional cleaning hours for touch point areas during the day remains in place until further notice.
- Staggered departure on buses or car/ taxi pick up of Juniors and Middle 1 - 5 at 2.30 pm, the Middle 6 - 10 and Junior Secondary at 2.35 pm and Seniors at 2.40 pm.
- Limiting parent and outside personal meeting on school grounds until advised.
We thank you for supporting us with the current health guidelines.
Positive Behaviour for Learning - Week 8
During week 8 our students will look at this explicit teaching focus in a number of ways. Through explicit and incidental teaching when students are moving about the school they will be encouraged to ask permission to leave class and communicate where they will be going and perhaps adhere to a timeline to return to class. The teaching of these skills help facilitate independence and a good work ethic between the student and classroom teacher. When students are on work skill development placement setting in Seniors these behaviours will double as respectful communication with superiors.
You can assist your young person to acquire or grow these skills by encouraging behaviours that seek permission for objects and activities. When out in the community you can encourage short bursts of independence and return to caregiver skills, when grocery shopping by asking your young person to obtain a certain item and pop it in the trolley.
Again we experienced first hand the power of working together and the positive impact on communities. We are on the journey to go far, together with students, families, community and partners.
“If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” -African proverb.
