Dear Mudgeeraba Special School Families,
Last week, students took part in a range of NAIDOC Week activities, including a visit from the Ngarangwal Aboriginal Rangers who shared knowledge about bush tucker, ochre painting, and jewellery making. Our school values the significance of NAIDOC Week and is committed to providing opportunities for all students to celebrate and connect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
We also celebrated a major milestone for our Prep students — 100 days of school! It was a special milestone celebrating the learning, growth, and memories made so far this year. Over the past 100 days, students have built friendships, developed new skills, and achieved so much, both academically and personally. This celebration was a chance to reflect on how far our youngest students have come in their very first days of school. Here’s looking forward to the next 100!
At our school, we are committed to ongoing improvement and truly value your feedback. Some of you may have received an email inviting you to participate in the annual School Opinion Survey. If you have, we’d greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us.
This year’s School Opinion Survey runs from 28 July to 22 August. Parents, carers, and staff have been emailed a link to participate. Your feedback will help us understand our school’s strengths and areas for improvement. Please note that all survey responses are confidential.
We’d like to inform parents and carers about two exciting upcoming events designed to support both our students and their families.
Transition to Senior School Information Night
This Tuesday evening, our Senior School Deputy Principal, Steve Dowlan will be hosting a Transition to Senior School Information Night. We warmly invite all parents and carers of Year 10 students to attend and learn more about the pathways and opportunities available in our Senior School programs.
The session will provide an overview of the senior phase of learning, including how our programs support each student’s progress toward their individual learning goals and the attainment of the Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA). You’ll also receive information about upcoming PATH meetings, which help shape your young person’s vision and direction for their final years of schooling and beyond.
Kids Tribe LIVE! with Dr Justin Coulson
The second event is Kids Tribe LIVE! — an evening dedicated to building a supportive community around parenting. This year, we’re thrilled to welcome one of Australia’s leading parenting experts, Dr Justin Coulson, for a powerful and practical presentation:
"Resilience – Developing Strength, Calm and Kindness in our Kids."
Dr Coulson is the co-host and parenting expert on Channel 9’s Parental Guidance, founder of happyfamilies.com.au, and author of nine books on parenting. He holds a PhD in Positive Psychology and is a proud father of six daughters. This session promises to be engaging, insightful, and full of practical strategies for raising resilient and emotionally strong children.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to the weeks ahead and all the opportunities they will bring for learning, connection, and growth.
Warm regards,
Renée Zhu
Principal
Friendly Reminders:
It is essential to keep children home when they are sick to prevent the spread of illness to other students and staff. Ensuring that children stay at home when they are unwell helps them recover faster and maintains a healthy school environment for everyone.
We understand that some of our families may have carers who are employed at the school in various roles. While we value the important work these carers do, we kindly remind parents and guardians to respect professional boundaries. Please ensure that any questions, concerns, or communications about your child’s progress or wellbeing are directed to the classroom teacher or a member of the school’s administration team. This ensures that we maintain clear and appropriate channels of communication, protecting both the privacy of students and the professionalism of our staff. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
