Dear Mudgeeraba Special School Families,
We hope you and your family are safe and well amid the recent severe weather event across Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales. As we returned to school last week after the challenges of recent severe weather, we were reminded of the strength and resilience of our Mudgee community. The severe weather may have tested us, but it has also revealed something far more powerful: our ability to support, uplift and care for one another in times of need.
For some, the effects of these storms continue to be felt, and our thoughts are with those still navigating difficulties. Please reach out if you require any additional support at this time.
To help students transition back into their routines, our staff has, as always, created a calm and structured environment, with special attention to emotional wellbeing. If your child continues to feel anxious or overwhelmed, please let their teacher know so we can offer the right support.
Prior to the cyclone our students participated in the MSSS Car Show. It was wonderful day and it was so great seeing some many smiling and excited faces. Our students have been working incredibly hard this term learning about Choice Theory concepts, as well as our school values: Connected, Aware and Responsible. A big shout out to Kustom Kars for giving our students such an unforgettable experience.
Tomorrow is the P&C’s Annual General Meeting, and I’d like to invite any parents who are curious to learn more about our fantastic P&C to come along. The Mudgee P&C has made a truly positive difference in our school community, and I’m excited to welcome any new members who want to be part of this great work.
On Friday 21st March, Mudgee will be celebrating Harmony Day. Harmony Day is a day dedicated to promoting cultural diversity, inclusion, and respect for all people, regardless of their background. It highlights the importance of living together in harmony, embracing differences, and fostering a sense of belonging in communities. I would like to encourage students to wear orange in support of Harmony Day 2025.
Until next time,
Renée Zhu
Principal

Science is Coming to Life!
The Teacher Release Team (TRT) has been busy bees lately, diving deep into the world of science with all our students! We're thrilled to report that the hands-on activities have been a huge hit, sparking curiosity and igniting a passion for learning across all year levels.
It's been fantastic to see the students so engaged and excited about exploring scientific concepts through practical experiments and investigations. Here's a quick glimpse into what each group has been learning:
- Early Years: Our youngest scientists are having a blast exploring the world of movement and sound. They're experimenting with how objects move and the different sounds they can make, laying the foundation for future scientific inquiry.
- Lower Middle Years: Things are heating up (literally!) with our lower middle years students. They're delving into the fascinating world of heat energy and forces, learning about how these concepts impact our everyday lives.
- Upper Middle Years: Our upper middle years learners are shining a light on sources of light and electrical energy. They're discovering the power of light and electricity and how these forms of energy are used all around us.
- Lower Junior Secondary: The lower junior secondary students are getting hands-on with the effects of forces and the different forms of energy. They're investigating how forces can change motion and exploring the various ways energy manifests itself.
-
Upper Junior Secondary: Our upper junior secondary students are covering some big topics! They're exploring energy transfer, the critical issue of global climate change, and the intricacies of the motion of objects though hands on activities catered to their diverse learning needs.
We're so proud of the enthusiasm and dedication our students have shown throughout this science unit. The TRT is committed to providing engaging and enriching learning experiences, and we're excited to see what discoveries our students make next!
The Mudgee Melodies are taking their show on the road again in 2025! Last week they entertained the young people at the Goodstart Early Learning Centre in Tallai.
PBL Car Show - Friday 28 February
Some amazing cars were put on display at the 2025 MSSS Car Show on Friday 28th of February. Each class created their unique car designs while learning about choice theory concepts and our school values of Connected, Aware and Responsible. Thank you to the Kustom Kars of Australia for showcasing their own amazing muscle cars.
