Dear Mudgeeraba Special School family and community members,
Welcome to the final newsletter of the 2024 school year. The end of the school year also marks 1 year of my principalship here at Mudgee. It has certainly been a big year for the whole school community, however we all know that Mudgee really is a wonderful place to work and learn!
Thank you all for the continual support I received as principal this year, and for the trust and belief you give to all staff and the improvement direction our school continues to take. I am extremely proud of the many and varied learning opportunities that the children who attend our great school are given.
Whilst we may only have a week of the school year to go, everyone has been kept extremely busy with the end of year activities and traditions that happen here.
Last week’s highlights included the Primary School Christmas concerts and our hugely successful Water Day! A heartfelt thank you to all staff involved for making the day filled with excitement and Christmas cheer for our students.
Today, we also celebrated our Year 12 students at their graduation. It was truly heart-warming to see staff and students lining the walkways, creating a memorable send-off for our graduates. Congratulations to our Year 12 students on completing this important chapter of their journey. Their hard work, determination, and unique spirit have been inspiring. As they step into the future, I hope they continue to chase their dreams with confidence and believe in their incredible potential. The future is bright, and we can’t wait to see all the amazing things they will accomplish. Wishing each of our graduates every success and happiness ahead!
Given all of these happenings, I’m sure you can understand why everyone is looking forward to a holiday!
Over the holidays, several exciting facility improvements will be made, and I’m eager to share them with our parents, carers, and families. When we return next year, you’ll notice our new electronic gate. While we won’t have additional parking within the school grounds, we’re hopeful this change will create more space for parents during student drop-off and pick-up times. Most importantly, it will enhance the security and safety of our school community.
Additionally, the Council will be upgrading the kerbside near the disability parking area. The grass will be replaced with a firm surface, making wheelchair access easier and safer. This improvement will ensure that parents and students no longer need to navigate through mud and grass during wet weather.
I am very excited about these improvements to our school!
Kind regards,
Renée Zhu
Principal

Thank you to Community Partners
At Mudgeeraba Special School we have a range of mutually beneficial partnerships with businesses, organisations and individuals within the community. We as very grateful to these partners and the valuable opportunities they provide our students to develop their skills in real-world settings. Recently, our senior students have been saying “Thank you” to the businesses supporting our skill development and active volunteering programs.
Symphony of Colours Art Exhibition
The artwork from one of our graduating students, Samara, is being showcased at the Symphony of Colours Art Exhibition on the 7th of December. Congratulations Samara! We are all very proud of you.
Thank you Evolve Health Studio
We are so grateful for the amazing donation we received today from the generous people at Evolve Health Studio in Burleigh. Through one of our senior students, Jeff, they have raised a massive amount of money that will go towards upgrading our assembly area. A big shout out to individual donor, Kane, for his wonderful generosity. We can’t thank you all enough.
Christmas Carrols are playing in the stores. The weather is heating up. Storms often cool the evening. Summer is here and another year has almost passed. Christmas is a time of joy and family to be together and share a lovely meal. There are often moments of both expected and unexpected Joy during Christmas.
Understandable when you think the first Christmas was an unexpected joy for those involved. Wise men travelled for over a year hoping to see the fulfillment of an ancient prophesy. Shepherds were watching sheep when they received a message about a good shepherd. An engaged man found his wife pregnant with a miracle. A cruel leader found his tyranny was almost over.
Nothing happened the way it was expected. The prophesy was fulfilled but instead of a royal king the wise men found a child in a humble house. The shepherds found there good Shepheard in a manger. The tyrant’s desire to kill his adversary was humbled by a simple dream. All unexpected but led to great joy to the ancient world that continues today as we enjoy the festive season.
Christmas is a time of joy that can change the direction of the year, leading to the hope of the new year. You may have had an amazing year or perhaps you found the year a battle. As we move into the festive season expect the unexpected. Find joy with those you share this time with and look forward to an unforgettable start to 2025.
