The Opening of our $15 million multi storey facility is a true celebration of the efforts of collaboration and creativity from our state school system delivering quality education and facilities. The journey humbly began with a Director General Principal for a Day Visit which led to a conversation with our regional infrastructure manager at the time Cassie Shepherd and P&C President Maurie Rowe who couldn’t be here today nearly a decade ago in A Block.
It was elation to be notified that school improvements for a master property plan were approved. It is true magic working with the project coordinating team and architects that investigated concept design work to remodel firstly A Block, then relooked at Fa F B Blocks to finally where we stand today removing 3 relocatableblocks and a toilet stand alone for Q Block. We had created a vision of our Senior School Strategic Plan and we conceptualised a shed incorporating multi function rooms to support our senior phase of learning which were shared as we sat around the table. The architect designed something way more grand than those simplistic drawings.
We acknowledge Judith Cronk our Principal Project Coordinator, Robert Jennings from Ridgemill and the successful builders Dino Gastaldon from Dickinsens and the work their teams delivered from the first building onsite meeting on 17 December 2022 to where we stand now.
I personally acknowledge Natasha Markwick as Acting Principal in 2022 with the Executive Team, staff students and community for continuing to deliver student learning outcomes whilst the building was taking shape and leading the intense implementation phase.
The impact and difference this purpose built facility is making to the learning of our students is so significant currently and in to the future. It has expanded the senior school offerings. It will enhance delivering our four Certificate Courses and Junior Secondary skill development of enterprise education to ensure a successful transition to post school either for recreation or supported employment opportunities.
This room that we held the event in provisions the hub for students design and development of their products that are made which they onsell for the skill development program in Junior Secondary and Certificate Course in AVP. On Monday they will transport these skills to their pop up shop at Robina Town Centre to showcase Enterprise Education and the senior phase of learning strategies of Equity and Excellence.
The much needed additional carparking has supported the daily flow for staff. The incorporated age appropriate play space incorporating gym type equipment is age appropriate and developing recreational skills.
We envision our school as a community hub where the fence line disappears and the flow between the school and community is seamless and strong. The infrastructure has brought our school to a premium facility and certainly encapsulates this vision.
Thank you
Yours in Education
Colleen Hope
Principal

Hi Mudgeeraba Special School Community,
On Monday of last week our graduates headed off to Camp Kindilan, Redland Bay for Schoolies. As you would expect, our amazing staff went over and above to ensure our students had the time of their lives in a safe and loving environment. So I would like to once again thank our Gorgeous staff for giving of themselves to ensure our graduates had the opportunity to attend Schoolies Mudgee Special style.
No, it wasn’t the traditional Surfers Paradise Neuro-typical Schoolies experience. To that, I say : Thank Goodness. No, our students weren’t able to go out independently and “let off steam” however and whenever they wanted. To that, I say again : Thank Goodness.
Our kids experienced the “Rolls Royce” of Schoolies with guaranteed safety giving them their independence away from their families and carers to participate in activities with their peers in celebration of their milestone. I for one, never imagined one of our students jumping off an extremely high tower, stacking it into the safety mats at the bottom, only to end his journey in fits of laughter. That video is simply heart-warming. J
To our Beautiful staff (Steve Dowlan, Nicola Young, Chris Jones, Shannen Watson and Kaya Raupita-Kihi who gave up 3 days of their personal lives, thank you for chaperoning our kids to a Schoolies experience they’ll remember forever.
Some of you may have heard the name, Tony Attwood. Tony is a British psychologist who specializes in all things Autism/Asperger related. Many of his videos are available on YouTube but there’s one in particular that’s a standout for me. The title is : Good Mental Health for Autistic Girls and Women. Yes, it’s aimed at females for the most part but there are some aspects that are relevant to both genders. If you’d like to take a look, here is the link : www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n6IWTRVGeg

This coming Tuesday 28th November at My Time, Toni is hosting a coffee connect morning. So if you’re up for a chat, come along and enjoy a cuppa and a laugh. Also, a reminder that Toni has started an adult’s library which can also be located in the living skills room. If you wish to add some unwanted books or have a browse, the library can be accessed during My Time on Tuesdays.
The next Uniform Shop day is this coming Tuesday from 11.00am – 12.30pm. We have changed the hours for this day only to coincide with the School’s Open Day.
Have a great weekend and take care everyone.
