This week MSSS students and staff showcased their individual creativity and artistic talents to create a Sea of Hands. The Sea of Hands is an iconic symbol of reconciliation and a way for people in Australia to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues and events.
Our graduation night is fast approaching. Join our graduating students and their families to celebrate their educational journey and achievements. Tickets can be purchased through the front office by Friday 20 October.
Term 4 PBL Celebration day - Super Hero day
It is with great pleasure that we announce the Term 4 PBL celebration will be Superhero themed! The school values of being Connected, Aware and Responsible will be explicitly taught throughout the term culminating with a day of fun and excitement on the last day of school.
I was passing the post office as I walked toward Lake Ore to eat my sandwich on the boardwalk with a million-dollar view of the lake. Two young men around the age of eighteen pulled their bikes up in front of me, looked me straight in the eyes and said,
“Hi Mr Jones do you remember us?"
I did not know what to say I had absolutely no idea who they were, or where I knew them from. I guessed they were most likely kids that I had taught in school. However, I could not remember if they were well behaved kids or so poorly behaved kids, funny how we often automatically think the worst of people or at least look straight for the negative possibilities. I thought quickly and replied;
“I think so, I taught you at Varsity?”
They enthusiastically said yes and waited for my reply.
So, this time I more honestly answered,
“I did teach a lot of kids there though, so I do not remember your names.”
They replied that I had taught them in grade 5 and told the best stories that were always fun and exciting. I found it interesting how all the things I taught doing Religious Instruction at Varsity and all they remembered was that I told the best stories. However, I always made sure that the stories had the basics of the curriculum I was to teach that day. I took two things from this encounter.
1. We need to have a more positive attitude to life and situations that we face rather than going straight to negative conclusions.
2. When we have opportunity to teach kids make sure everything has purpose because you never know what parts kids are going to remember.
May I encourage you that life should be looked at with a positive attitude, not denying that life is not always easy. However, how we view each day may determine the outcome. Finally, each day you have the opportunity to teach your kids, do it with fun and purpose because kids often remember the most unlikely things.
Green Heart Trivia Fundraising Night Supporting School Chaplain Services
Hi Mudgeeraba Special School Community.
Firstly, I want to thank our Beautiful staff at Mudgee Special for all that they do. They often give of their own time for our benefit and Tuesday night was no exception. Steve Dowlan and Bree Nairn hosted a Seniors information night for parents to gather information on how Graduation night and Schoolies works. This information could have just been sent out, yet even after being at school all day Steve and Bree gave their time for us which offered us the opportunity to discuss and ask questions. Thank you Steve and Bree for looking after us Tuesday. Please know that you are appreciated.
On Wednesday I had the privilege of being on the panel for the School Captain interviews. Such a heart-warming experience and one that filled me with pride for the beautiful students who applied for the position. All of the candidates were amazing both with their applications and their interviews. I don’t know about you, but interviews are something I’ve always struggled with so to see our beautiful students do just that, is something that deserves loads of praise. Congratulations to all of our candidates.
