Junior Secondary Skill Development
Junior Secondary students engage in a range of on-campus skill development elective programs to develop their literacy, numeracy and vocational work skills. These programs are also aligned to Certificate I courses that they will participate in the Senior phase of learning. Here are some of our students engaging in the jam making, edible cosmetics and Mudgee cafe making elective programs.
This week we celebrated National Science Week. We celebrated by participating in classroom activities which allowed the students to innovate and create. On Friday, students participated in activities as a block, where they used problem solving skills to manipulate Sphero's through obstacles and constructed rockets using a variety of resources.
Week 7 is Book Week!!
The theme this year is ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’. Each class has participated in a door book cover challenge and have been working super hard to design and create their book cover display. All door images have been uploaded to the school’s Facebook page for the People’s Choice Award voting poll. Competition ends on Thursday 24th August, so get voting!
We have several fun activities occurring across Book Week:
- Monday / Tuesday is Book Week themed Outdoor Learning
- Tuesday is book week parade - Dress up as your favourite book character
- On Thursday, Book Door Cover competition is drawn
- The Super Science Circus Show is coming to Mudgee on Friday 25th August
On Monday the 7th of August our students travelled to Somerset College to participate in the annual Mudgee Mini Olympics. It was an amazing day full of activities and personal achievements. The day was topped off with a mascot race with our very own Puggles the Platypus taking first place. We congratulate all students, staff and families for making such a wonderful experience.
Hi Mudgeeraba Special School Community.
A while ago when I was surfing the internet, I came across an Autism Alert card which was created in Western Australia.
The Autism Association WA and the Police came up with the idea of an Autism Alert Card to assist individuals in situations they might find themselves in with Police and first responders.
After looking into it, I learned they could be useful for many situations in addition to the initial purpose.
For example, if a young person is out and about with someone other than their parents/carers they might become separated. If this occurs, then the young person may be able to approach someone in a nearby business (like a shop or petrol station) and show them the card which will have 2 contacts you will have nominated to call should the need arise.
If a young person is unable to communicate their need, then maybe wearing the card attached to a lanyard would be an option.

If you would like to purchase an Autism Alert Card, they are $5. Please click on the link below.

At My Time on Tuesday, Toni hosted a cookie decorating class. It was lots of fun and parents took their creations home to show off their artistic side, or lack thereof in my case.
This coming Tuesday 22nd, Toni has Attwood Marshall Laywers coming to speak with us about Wills. Wills are not something we necessarily want to think about but for those of us raising and caring for Special needs kids or other Family members, it’s a topic that we absolutely need to address.
So join us for a cuppa, we’d love to see you.
The next uniform shop day is this coming Tuesday 22nd August, 8.30am-9.30am.
Have a great weekend and take care everyone.
Paula.
(Uniform Coordinator and Vice President of P&C)
Wellbeing: Timeout QLD Health for Ill Health
Mudgeeraba Special School families thanks for your diligence in supporting your students at home when they are unwell. Unfortunately there is still a range of flu and gastro related illnesses in the community.
Keeping students, families and staff well is a shared responsibility and we are following health advice when we all work together. In this fortnight newsletter we advise that families have been enacting the health policy and keeping their young people at home.
If you have any queries please contact through the office our departmental nurse Bec Hayden or myself as Principal.
