As we draw close to the end of Term 2 we highlight a few important pieces of information to assist families and school.
- We have had increased enrolments and with that we have needed to support the classroom operations to transition. Our greatest need in education across Queensland and Australia is teacher recruitment. We too are seeking quality teachers to be part of the team with impending staff leave for Term 3 and for daily absences when staff are unwell. We thank you for understanding that these disruptions were not planned and we are working with our department to seek staff.
- We have been in communicate with the Out of Home School Care organisation - Ruby and Ollies to know where our application for out of school onsite programs is up too. We are awaiting a joint visit with our department as next steps. This is a much slower process than expected and unfortunately cannot provide a confirmed commencement date. We will provide fortnightly updates to assist families with planning. It is expected to be a transitioned process when confirmed to cater for a Prep to Year 12 delivery.
- Next week teachers will undertake our semesterly moderation process to present their students evidence for learning to report their progress on their learning goals for this semester. Teachers are finalising their report cards which will be forwarded home in Week 10. In Term 3 your class teacher will connect with you for our second semester interview for reviewing your young persons Individual Curriculum Plan or Personal Future Action Plan. These processes were noted by the School Review Team as quality.
- Natasha Markwick Deputy Principal is on planned leave till the end of term. If you have any communicate please talk to your class teacher in the first instance or communicate through the office and request myself.
- Sam Jones was the successful applicant for Currumbin Community Special A04 Business Manager and commenced there this week. We sincerely thank Sam for her 16 going on 17 years of service here at Mudgeeraba Special. She has left a legacy and I know she will make a difference in her knew role. We have commenced panel work for our recruitment process for AO5 Business Manager and ask you to be very considerate of the office space as we support Lorraine and Carly. We will communicate our successful applicant as soon as the process is finalised.
- Might I thank families with the considerations regarding student wellbeing as we do have an increase of the flu presentation this year. We request if students are unwell that they remain at home until they are again feeling themselves. Please see my Wellbeing reference in the newsletter.

Wellbeing: Timeout QLD Health for Ill Health
Mudgeeraba Special School families thanks for your diligence in supporting your students at home when they are unwell.
Keeping students, families and staff well is a shared responsibility and we are following health advice when we all work together. In this fortnight newsletter we advise that families have been enacting the health policy and keeping their young people at home.
There have been cases of:
- Flu related illnesses including Covid
- A reported case of Headlice
- A reported case of Hand Foot and Mouth
- A reported case of Chickenpox
Our cleaners and schools officer have been diligent in their operational duties of extra cleaning in our communal spaces to minimise health impacts. Please refer to the Qld Health Timeout Poster and Brochure as a quick reference for action.
If you have any queries please contact through the office our departmental nurse Bec Hayden or myself as Principal.

Greenheart Cluster Public Speaking Competition
Some of our students represented us at the Greenheart cluster public speaking competition. They did an amazing job delivering their self-composed speeches in front their peers from our cluster schools. Well done everyone!

Queensland Special Education Touch Football State Championships
Some of our Senior students represented our school at the South East Queensland touch football championships in Redland Bay. They had a great time participating with their peers from across the region, developing teamwork and social skills. Well done to all students and staff involved.

Our Positive Pathways Expo on Tuesday 30 June was a fantastic event. A huge THANK YOU to the more than 40 organisations that came and provided information about their programs and services to our parents, students and staff.

Our Senior school hosted a breakfast on Thursday 1 June to say to say thank you to the businesses and organisations that our school partners with. It also provided a great opportunity for our students to showcase their amazing hospitality and vocational skills. We were very grateful at the breakfast to have our guest speaker, Daniel Murray, talk to our partners about the importance of leading with empathy. Thank you to all the staff and students involved in making this a wonderful event.
Hi Mudgeeraba Special School Community.
Last Tuesday 30th May, Mudgee Special held the Positive Pathways Expo in Q Block. Miranda Marks (P&C President) and I held a stall for both the P&C and My Time. Situated next to our table, was Nerang Neighbourhood Centre manned by a lady named Vicky. Vicky is a passionate advocate for New Zealand migrants. She gave me some information to pass on to our school community so please have a read if this is relevant to you.
My Time is held every Tuesday from 9.30am. This is a great opportunity to relax and chat to other parents. If you have any ideas that you’d like to suggest for My Time, I’m sure Toni would love to hear from you.
I have had some valuable feedback from one of our parents. She told me that because the Uniform shop is open every fortnight rather than weekly, it can be difficult to keep track of opening days so I will now be announcing this in my blog moving forward.
The next uniform shop day will be this coming Tuesday 13th June so feel free to drop in and say hi.
I have been able to restock polo shirts this week so please drop by if you require some for your young person.
Have a great weekend and take care everyone.
Paula
Wonder Recycling Rewards for Schools
Exciting news! We have signed up for the 'Wonder Recycling Rewards' program. The aim is to collect bread bags, add them to the collection boxes (which will be located around the school). At the end of the campaign, points will be earned for each recycled bread bag and will be exchanged for sports equipment!
