Today we recognise International Nurses Day. Our Team at Mudgeeraba Special School: Rebecca Hayden and Toni Alroy along with their Senior Clinician Emma Scone undertake a most valued service to the community of Mudgeeraba and the local government areas in our region that they serve.
We are so blessed to have them part of our school community. They are always so professional, supportive to staff with professional learning and implementing practices and connecting with families.
We want you to know you are integral part of the team. They are certainly our Florence Nightingale's.
We also acknowledged our Administrative Team on Tuesday and again what a dedicated team we have in the office with Sam Jones, Lorraine Yorke and Carly Kelly. Everyday they present as strong role models being a listening ear, supporting families, staff and students and encouraging us to enact our work more easily by being the spine of the school.
We have a busy week ahead with celebrating our school community Mothers and Special Persons on Monday 15 May and Burleigh Walk on 19 May at Burleigh Heads. Please Seesaw your teacher if you require more information pertinent to your young person.
Yours in Education
Colleen Hope

Guidance Officers contribute to the development of a comprehensive student support and wellbeing program, which is responsive to the needs of the school community.
Support provided by guidance officers includes advice and counselling on educational, behavioural, vocational, personal, social, family, and mental health and wellbeing issues.
Psychoeducational assessments and supporting our Senior Team with Personal Futures Action Planning also form an important part of the work GOs undertake to enhance positive educational outcomes and post school pathways for all students.
In addition, GOs are able to provide training and support to staff in order to build their understanding and capability about how best to support students' mental health and wellbeing.
We acknowledge our Guidance Officer Lucia Ariotti and her services to Mudgeeraba Special School. She is an integral member of our Wellbeing Team: Principal, School Chaplain, Community Laison Officer and My Time Facilitator. (See contact us for days on site.)
Fire Ants Alert Local Government Areas
Fire ants are one of the world’s most invasive pests and they have the potential to devastate our environment, economy and the outdoor way of life we know and love. To stop the spread of fire ants, the Department of Education is collaborating with the National Fire Ant Eradication Program to manage fire ants across schools within South East Queensland. This important work will help protect our schools and community from the dangers posed by fire ants.
An initial pilot program has treated 46 schools across the Logan, Ipswich, Somerset and Gold Coast City local government areas (Metropolitan and South East education regions). This will expand over the coming years to include additional schools. The treatment consists of applying two rounds of an insect growth regulator which sterilises the fire ant queen and prevents new ants from maturing into adults. These types of products are widely used in mosquito control programs, cockroach treatment and pet flea collars and when used according to instructions, are not harmful to humans, pets or wildlife.
The first round of treatment occurred in early 2023 and round two is being completed during April and May. The fire ant bait is being applied by experienced pest management technicians.
The school treatment program supports efforts to eradicate fire ants within South East Queensland by suppressing the fire ant population in areas until eradication treatment takes place. Under the Biosecurity Act 2014 all Queenslanders have an obligation to manage biosecurity risks. The Department of Education is meeting its obligations by managing fire ants on land it owns or manages.
The National Fire Ant Eradication Program is also running a range of community projects to provide residents in selected suburbs with free fire ant bait to treat their yards to support eradication goals. It was a wonderful day for our school at the Mudgeeraba Street party. The Mudgee Melodies put on an amazing performance in front of a big crowd. Our students, parents, staff marched together with Puggles in the street parade. While our senior school sold products that they had made at their market stall. Well done everyone!

Hi Mudgeeraba Special School Community.
As you would undoubtedly know, last Saturday, the P&C held its first fundraiser for the year on 6 May with Flamingo Bingo.
A great night was had by all and a substantial amount of money raised for our school so a huge thank you to those who contributed to the success of the evening.
On May 30th, we are holding our annual Positive Pathways Expo on campus.
The expo gives Parents and Carers the opportunity to approach providers and gather information that may be relevant in your young person’s life. The expo is free and there’s a lot on offer so come along and check it out for yourself.
With Mother’s Day only days away, there are many options for spoiling Mums. Sanctuary Cove has various options on offer, one of which is a free photo with Mum.

Exciting news! We have signed up for the 'Wonder Recycling Rewards' program. The aim is to collect bread bags, add them to the collection boxes (which will be located around the school). At the end of the campaign, points will be earned for each recycled bread bag and will be exchanged for sports equipment!
