This week we recognised Anzac Day Services at school and around the country. We thank Louise Stone - Schmidt one of our Senior Teachers and Teacher Release Team Teacher for organising our event and one of our Great Grandfather's Jack Gamble and Mudgeeraba RSL representatives presenting the address to our school community.
The phrase 'Lest we forget' is from a line in an 1897 Rudyard Kipling poem, Recessional:
God of our fathers, known of old,
Lord of our far-flung battle line,
Beneath whose awful hand we hold
Dominion over palm and pine—
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!
'Lest' comes from the Old English ‘thӯ lǣs the’ , which translates to 'whereby less that'. Kipling drew inspiration from a biblical phrase in Deuteronomy 6:12, where ‘lest’ took the meaning ‘for fear that’.
We often sing Kipling's poem as a hymn at Anzac Day services for Australians and New Zealanders.
The word ‘lest’ gained popularity around the time the poem was written. Then it became part of the phrase we use today, honouring the sacrifices of those who have served and died.
Use of the phrase 'lest we forget' became common across Australia and New Zealand after World War I. The phrase became linked with commemorative services on:
The message of service and sacrifice for our continued freedom is so humbling to each of us as citizens of Australia.
Yours in Education

Juniors and Middle School students take part in weekly outdoor learning activities. Outdoor learning is when entire blocks come together to learn! One teacher from each block will lead a 20-minute explicit lesson that relates to the unit of work and/or the sound of the week. The students have 30 minutes to explore Tuff Trays after the explicit teaching. The purpose of the Tuff Tray is to link to the learning overview or sound of the week.
Smiling Mind is a tool developed by psychologists and educators to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness has been found to improve emotional regulation, attention, memory and learning. The program will be offered in classrooms for students across the P-12 campus and is linked to our personal and social capabilities. For more information about Smiling Mind, please see the attached guide for parents and carers.
International Dance Day is a global celebration of dance held annually on 29th April. The day strives to encourage participation and education in dance through events and festivals held all over the world. Lower Middle and Upper Middle students have been busy rehearsing for a filmed performance on Friday 28th April. Students moved their bodies to the 'Body Boogie'. To see their performance, check out our Facebook page.
