Mudgeeraba Special School Families our first two formal weeks of school have started very strongly with our Literacy Block embedded first up in the morning session. The teaching staff are focussed on Quality Reading and Writing teaching strategies across the day across key learning areas of English, Mathematics, Humantities and Social Science and Health and Physical Education for Prep to Year 9 levels and in Senior School Certificate Courses offerings. Skill development programs across our Secondary School provides valuable hands on choices for post school futures.
Attached as the image is our School Improvement Plan 2023 with our key Explicit Improvement foci:
- Embedding our Wellbeing Framework of Choice Theory for Staff and Community and the Get Happier School for students
- Quality Reading and Writing - AAC
- Outdoor Learning - Age Appropriate Pedagogies
We will present this planning to the P&C at their first Meeting on Wednesday 8 February at 9.15 am and forward updates in the newsletter.
Each week we will post snapshots of learning on our Social Media platforms and in our fortnightly newsletter to celebrate learning across the school campus. Please return or update media releases to approve your young person being the face of our school community. We love to see our students shine.
The building works are progressing to schedule and we are aiming for occupancy in Week 5. We will communicate that further with classes who will be moving in to support transition planning. Furniture was ordered at the end of last year and suppliers are on track for middle to end of February to provide a state of the art learning space for our students now and into the future.
Attached in the newsletter is our Student Contribution Scheme for families according to the section of the school your young person. This contribution assists the classes with their resources for young person rather than families preparing a booklist. Your assistance to support payment in the next fortnight will be greatly appreciated.
In this fortnightly cycle Teachers will be meeting with families to plan this semester and years Individual Curriculum Plan, PATH or Personal Future Action Plans. This is a very valuable time for families and staff to plan next steps goals for their young people. We encourage you to complete the survey staff will forward you from these meetings to help us to maintain being a Quality School.
The year ahead will be dynamic and fruitful as we partner together.
Yours in Education

- Families to ensure student attendance and contact the school office and approved transport if your young person is unwell.
- Please continue to stay home if your young person is unwell for their health and the consideration of their peers and staff.
- If you are a late arrival it is imperative that you first check in at the office to assist the class flow and the office will follow through with the class to assist you and record attendance on One School – our student attendance is captured in this platform. Please DO NOT go straight to the classroom in line with our Fire and Evacuation Policy to know the whereabouts of all personnel on site.
- No phone calls will be directed to call in school learning times. The office will assist to ensure messaging is forwarded to classrooms or support in case of any emergency.
- Messages and information can be recorded through our SeeSaw Platform as our Electronic Student Communication and teachers will respond within a reasonable time frame according to their departmental agreements.
- Teaching staff are engaged in staff and committee meetings during the week before school which may limit their face to face connect on those mornings.
