Welcome Mudgeeraba Special School Families to the 2023 School Year.
I again want to thank most sincerely again Ms Natasha Markwick for leading Mudgeeraba Special School in 2022. Region has approved my four day per week part-time request for Term One. I will work Monday to Thursday and Ms Natasha Markwick is the contact on Fridays. As per delegations I honour the Principal responsibilities for the school. Our Deputy Principals: Ms Natasha Markwick will be key contact for Junior and Middle Classes and Mr Steve Dowlan for Junior Secondary and Seniors.
Planning for the new school year. The team ended the year with strong directions unpacked with the staff and P&C Association. Our School Improvement Plan will be communicated in the next newsletter.
The Building portfolio continues to move forward. Rain over the holidays has required a few adjustments. This has affected our planning for next week. Access through the building to existing relocatables will be in place for Monday 23 January. We hope to take part occupancy of this amazing resource by mid Term One. We will continue to keep you updated.
In planning the new school year our first event is our annual Meet The Teacher Night on Wednesday 18th January at 5 pm. We have a few considerations that we require your assistance with this year:
- On this occasion we need to request that this evening is an adult only event as we are working in with our master building program as the project builders and department finalise updated access through the school from F Block.
- The purpose of the evening is to establish a professional relationship with the class and team families, provide a clear picture of curriculum delivery, our Positive Behaviour Learning linked to our student wellbeing framework The Get Happier Project, teaching strategies and events for 2023.
- Our Education Nursing team will be onsite to assist with medical updates and handovers in regard to health conditions and medications.
- The P&C Uniform Shop will be open to support uniform purchases
- Please complete the sausage sizzle survey for adults attending on the evening within the newsletter by Monday 3 pm to assist with our preparations.
Staff will be engaged in Professional Learning from Tuesday to Friday with a wide range of topics from Reading, Writing, Visual Literacy, Mandatory Compliance Training and teaming. They look forward to meeting you on Wednesday evening.
In preparing for students onsite from Monday 23 January we can support each other with key protocols:
- Students school contact hours 9 am to 2.45 pm.
- Student supervision from 8.30 am to 9.00 am.
- Families to ensure student attendance and contact the school office and approved transport if your young person is unwell.
- Please continue to stay home if your young person is unwell for their health and the consideration of their peers and staff.
- If you are a late arrival it is imperative that you first check in at the office to assist the class flow and the office will follow through with the class to assist you and record attendance on One School – our student attendance is captured in this platform. Please DO NOT go straight to the classroom in line with our Fire and Evacuation Policy to know the whereabouts of all personnel on site.
- No phone calls will be directed to call in school learning times. The office will assist to ensure messaging is forwarded to classrooms or support in case of an emergency.
- Messages and information can be recorded through our SeeSaw Platform and teachers will respond within a reasonable time frame according to their departmental agreements.
- Medications will be firstly checked in and signed off at the office with the Office Staff.
We look forward to all the new year has ahead for us.
Yours in Education
Colleen Hope
