Dear Parents and Community,
Welcome to the beginning of week 3.
At the end of last term parents received their child’s report card. It was such a pleasure seeing the amazing goals our students achieved, we are super proud of everyone's achievements. It is so important we work together to achieve not only academic goals but the social and emotional targets as well. In the next couple of weeks we can't wait to see you in the school working with teachers to map out the next six months. At the end of these meetings our teachers will be asking you key questions around our school community, which will allow us to be reflective around what is working and what you could consider. At Mudgeeraba Special School it is really important to us that we work together within our environment.
We have a busy term ahead of us, with many school events that will provide families, students and the wider school community to come together. These events are what makes Mudgeeraba Special School magnificent, please watch See Saw and our Newsletter closely for more detail.
P and C – Thank you
Huge thanks in advance to the P and C for their fundraising efforts around helping us to build a new bike track for our school community. We are hoping if we can get enough funds together the team building our junior secondary and senior school classrooms will be able to complete for us when they are doing the playground in this area. Huge thanks also goes to the families and networks who have donated into our DGR account, we can't thank you enough. It is going to be amazing when this all comes together.
Attendance – Every Day Counts
School absenteeism can impact significantly on students' learning and wellbeing. Attending school every day helps children to build social and emotional skills such as communication, teamwork and resilience. If you are having trouble getting your child to school, please reach out and speak with your classroom teacher or Deputy Principal. There is no quick and simple solution, nor a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to improving attendance. However, we need to work together to have every student at school.
2022 School Opinion Survey
Thank you to all of those who have already completed the Parent/Caregiver Survey. If you have not had a chance to complete the survey yet, please note that the online surveys will remain open until Friday, 12 August 2022. This is your opportunity to provide feedback about what our school does well and how we can improve.
To have your say, check your email for an invitation from the Department of Education titled School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2022.
Can’t find your invitation? If your family has more than one parent/caregiver, check that they haven’t received the invitation and/or check your junk email folder.
We hope the start of term 3 has started well for you.
Kind regards
Natasha Markwick
Acting Principal

Individual Curriculum Plan - Rejuvenation
Hello Mudgeeraba Special School Families,
Our school has been working in consultation with our teachers to rejuvenate the Individual Curriculum Plan (ICP) Meeting process. We will be using our schools growing knowledge of Choice Theory and we hope this will enrich your engagement with our teachers and enable you to celebrate your young person's learning journey. We are also wanting to collaborate with you to provide us some feedback about our school and how we can better serve our school community and provide a quality world picture in which we can all invest. At the end of your ICP meeting we would love for you to answer 5 questions and we will use your feedback to make these quality world positive changes.
On Monday your young person's Individual Curriculum Plan (ICP) will come home in DRAFT for you to peruse and approve at your upcoming ICP meeting. We thank you all for being involved with your young person's schooling process and can't wait to meet with you in the coming weeks.
Adaptation of the Choice Theory chart below...

Mudgee Families,
Our concert aptly titled Mudgee's Quality World is fast approaching. We have been very busy in the background ensuring that we can accomodate all of our family members coming to watch your young person once again by securing the Star Casino. This week watch out for more information in your young persons communication envelope about Concert Photography, Concert Vimeo and Concert Raffle ticket sales and order forms so that you can purchase precious momento's of your young person. We are so excited about this upcoming event and can't wait to share all the hard rehearsal work students and staff have been engaging in across the year.

Mudgee Families,
Please see below the notice of Early Departure for the Biennial Concert on Thursday 1st September. January at Roselands
If you’ve been following the Chappy Chatbox, you’ll notice that I focus a lot on relationships and friendships. You can’t have too many friends, and you can’t have too much kindness in your life. I’m reminded of this every time I think about a mate of mine, from when I was in my early teens growing up.
Roselands, was a shopping town, like Pac Fair or Robina Town Centre. It was about a 10 minute walk from my house, and as young teens, we used to walk up there just to hang out.
One particular day, a mate of mine and I, went to Roselands so I could buy something that I’d saved for: a single of January, by Pilot.
Now I know, you’re probably wondering, “What’s January, by Pilot?”. When I was growing up, there wasn’t any such thing as iTunes, or Streaming Services, so if you wanted to own your own copy of a song you’d heard and liked on the radio, you bought a vinyl record, called a, ‘single’. And January, was my favourite song at the time, by a band called, Pilot. So up we went, straight to the record store (yep, the record store!), and I bought, January, by Pilot.
I was chuffed, and couldn’t wait to get home to play it a hundred times. But things were about to put a stop to that.
Heading for home on the way out of Roselands, my mate wanted to stop and play a game of pinball (hopefully, I won’t have to explain pinball!). Our favourite pinball machine, was a bowling game, and it stood right at the bottom of the ‘Raindrop Fountain’ escalators, along with two other machines. That day, he was on fire, and was notching up an impressive score. I stood by and watched on, and cheered as he cracked a free game! He was on a roll, a-flipping and a-flapping (no such thing as flapping, I know!), and owning every inch of the game. My mate, originally only had enough coin to play one game, but you wouldn’t have known it by the free games he was cracking.
We hi-fived each other when the game finally ended, and he was the pinball king of the moment. Still hi-fiving as we left, we both were feeling invincible. Until about a third of the way home.
“Hang on, wait a minute!” I stood motionless for a split second. “Where’s my single?” I had left January, by Pilot, in its paper bag on top of the bowling pinball machine, and in my excitement forgot to pick it up before we left.
My mate and I ran all the way back to Roselands, and headed for the pinball machine, only to find that it wasn’t there – someone had grabbed it. After asking at the information desk, and doubling back to the record store, the realization sank in – I had lost January, by Pilot.
As a kid, 99c to buy anything in those days, was a big investment, especially, when you stupidly spent the money, then lost the very thing you just bought. How could I have been such a doofus?
Have you ever had those moments, when something or someone came to your rescue, right when you needed it most? Right when you didn’t do a thing to deserve it, you got some grace? Or better still, someone replaced your copy of January, by Pilot?
While we were both still at the record store, my mate, pulled out a dollar note, of his own money, and bought me another copy of January, by Pilot! All he said, after I asked him, was, “I dunno, I just wanted to!”
And I guess, that’s what friends do – they do kind stuff, because they want to. There doesn’t seem to be any cost when real mates jump into action. There doesn’t seem to be any hesitation when friends care. And recently, I’ve had many friends do just that for me during some tough times.
My mate taught me a lot that day. He taught me about the attitude behind mate-ship, and I’ve never forgotten him for it.
Who would’ve thought, that January, by Pilot, at a Roselands, would stand out like it did? But it did, and it still does.
January, by Pilot, at Roselands. Who would’ve thought!
