Dear Parents and Community,
We have come to the end of a very productive Semester at Mudgeeraba Special School. Your young person’s Semester 1 reports have been sent home and it is wonderful to read about all of the progress they have made toward their individualised learning goals. At Mudgeeraba Special school we are all INVESTED, and this progress has only been made possible through the collaborative efforts of the entire school community. I would like to thank you, the parents and carers, for supporting the school and enabling your young person to access their learning programs. I would also like to thank our amazing staff for all their work, utilising research-based practices to create engaging and age appropriate learning opportunities specific to your young person’s individual needs.
We would like to welcome Natasha Crow to the school. Natasha will be working as a psychologist on Thursdays to address student wellbeing concerns that may be barriers to their engagement in learning. We are excited to have Natasha on our team.
In Term 3 we will be refining our whole school GOTCHA system referred to as the GPS. In this system, students will be given a GPS for displaying the school values of Connected, Aware and Responsible. GPS cards will be put in their classroom petrol bowsers and tallied in weeks 5 and 10 of each term. Every student will receive a certificate indicating the number of GPS cards they have received over that period.
Our School continues working toward co-verification as a Glasser Quality School and over the holidays 11 of our staff are undertaking Advanced Intensive Training in Choice Theory, Lead Management and Reality Therapy. This course is being facilitated by Ivan Honey, the creator of the Get Happier Project - the social and emotional learning used throughout our school. We also have 12 staff members completing their Basic Intensive Training in Choice theory at the moment, and 13 of our staff that have recently completed their Basic Practicum Training. All this training in Choice Theory is helping our school become a Glasser Quality School, and providing a framework for our school community to understand human behaviour and build positive relationships.
Thursday in week 1, I will be meeting with the New Building team, we are still working towards the building being ready for Term 1 2023. It is exciting being a part of the team creating learning spaces that will support our students transitioning into Post School.
Mrs Hope is extending her leave for term 3. During this team Executive Team for term 3 are;
We are excited to have Michaela Austin join our Executive Team as a Head of Curriculum. Michaela was the successful in our recruitment process and it is a fantastic opportunity for Michaela to develop her leadership skills
We wish you a happy and safe holiday and we look forward to seeing everyone again in Term 3.
Kind regards
Natasha Markwick

We are super excited to announce that once again, our young people will be performing at the Star Casino. Seating is plentiful so all your familiy members and friends of family can most certainly attend. We will send home information on how to purchase tickets in Week 1. We are so very excited for this event.
Junior Secondary Skill Development Bake Sale
Thank you to everyone who supported the Junior Secondary Skill Development Bake Sale. On the day we prepared, packaged and delivered over fifty food orders to the school community to consolidate all the skills we have learned during Semester One. The profits of the event will go towards covering the costs of equipment and materials of future programs.
On Monday 13 June our Senior School students ran another successful market stall at Robina Town Centre. We love seeing our students shine as they showcase their skills in the community.

Under Eight's at Mudgeeraba Creek
On Wednesday 8th June, all Lower Middle students and families and students of our Drumbeat and Love to Laugh program were invited to participate in the Under Eight’s event at Mudgeeraba Creek State School. Students engaged with peers from Mudgeeraba Creek for activities including craft, obstacle course, tough trays, police visit, mascot photos, reptiles and a sausage sizzle. It was a great day for all staff working with a local cluster school.
Angels at ALDI
I trudged to my car, slung my back pack onto the passenger seat, and carefully laid out my gear on the floor of the back of my car. I slumped behind the steering wheel, dialed in some tunes on Spotify, plugged in my phone, and wearily headed off to Aldi to pick up some needed supplies before heading home.
It had been a long day, and a tiring day. I was so relieved to be seeing the back of it. The 5pm sunshine had bundyed off, and I was feeling clagged from a crazy, busy day.
Have you ever had one of those super busy days where everything rushes by in a blur, and by the end of the day, all you want to do is go home, put on your favourite tracky-dacks, and become one with the couch? Your head feels like mashed potato, and the merry-go-round you’ve been riding, although finished for the day, feels like it hasn’t stopped, and is still twirling and spinning out of control.
That was my day last Friday.
At Aldi, I trudged down the aisles in search of sausages, wraps, chicken stock, dark chocolate, and cheese and crackers, while a screaming child in the sauce, aisle was in mid-crescendo, sounding like a metal thrash drummer inside my throbbing headache.
At times like these, you wish you could just press the fast forward button and get the heck out of everywhere!
And, if by the hand of the angel of all that resembles bad luck, a lady and her husband, with a trolley so full that it looked as though they were attempting the world record of goods in a shopping trolley, beat me to the only open checkout.
My kingdom for a break!
Does anyone else roll their eyes at the sky when stupid situations like this, make life seem so, well…. stupid? But it wasn’t long before the only stupid Aldi customer in the store, was me!
“Go ahead, you’ve hardly got anything, and we have all this!” smiled the lady with the over-stacked trolley, as she waved me through.
“Oh, um… thanks!” I replied, with an awkward smile.
Aldi angel number one.
“Hi there. How are you? How’s your day been?” beamed the friendly person behind the register. As he checked through my groceries, he continued the positive chat, and somehow lifted me out of the doldrums with a smile.
Aldi angel number two.
Just when I needed it, not one, but two angels from Aldi, lifted my spirit with their smiles and their friendliness. Both were totally unexpected. Both were full of grace. My attitude before both angels was somewhere towards the bottom … of the bottom of smelly attitudes.
I did nothing to deserve their kindness, yet they gave me even more. Which is exactly what grace is - totally undeserved favor.
Have you ever met an angel at Aldi, or somewhere else? And, the worse thing about it; I didn’t even catch their names! I even went back the next morning to say thank you to the cashier person, but they weren’t there. Sure, I’d thanked him at the time, but I didn’t take the opportunity to show him any appreciation. Opportunity lost.
I think next time, I’m going to make a little more effort to notice the angels at Aldi, especially when they prop up at the exact right moment when needed. And boy, were they needed that day!
Angels, who would’ve thought! Do you know any by name? I’m going to learn at least one.
