The Leadership Team met on 17 September to commence planning our next Quadrennial Plan. We have our Regional Director John Norfolk and Assist Drirector General Kate Bentley coming on 16 October to be briefed on our School Review results to celebrate with the staff our outstanding results. We will follow up with the Leadership Team and Parent & Community consultations in the coming weeks to finalise our Quadrennial Plan.
Discussions were undertaken at the Glasser Australia Conference in the holidays about considering becoming the first Quality Special School. We aim to visit Pergian Springs SS who became the second Quality School in Australia in September.
Below are from the School Review Report. The full report will be available on the school website next week.
Quadrennial Strategic Plan 2020 - 2023
Key Improvement Strategies
- Utilise networks and key educational leaders including academics, universities and schools nationally and internationally to further share school-developed expertise and maintain a forward focus on school improvement.
- Explore opportunities for staff to share their instructional leadership and expertise in a range of educational contexts, including conferences and events within and outside the special education context.
- Explore opportunities for students to further develop enterprise and entrepreneurial skills and capabilities through the delivery of the VET courses and the skills development program.
- Build teacher capability to use the Balanced Literacy pedagogical approach across all key learning areas by developing exemplars.
- Collaborate with regional and central office facilities officers to develop a Master Property Plan to meet community expectations and the diverse learning needs of students.

Balanced Literacy: Working with Words
In week 2 students will be reviewing the short vowels sounds that they have been learning about and will start to be introduced to long vowel sounds over the next few weeks.
Our school is partnering with a new program called COACH to help families in challenging places flourish. With the support and encouragement of trained mentors, who will meet with families weekly or fortnightly for twelve months, the participants will work toward life goals and positive change. This is a free service.
At times do you feel isolated, overwhelmed or anxious? Are you struggling to meet your financial budget, find employment or make friends? Would you like an encouraging, non-judgemental friend to talk with who can assist in overcoming the challenges of life?
Mudgeeraba Special School is partnering with the COACH program for parents who would like support to manage their way into a better life. If you would like to know more, please talk with Di or Adrian, or come introduce yourself to Dawna Cahill, the COACH Coordinator, at our next My Time Coffee and Cake Morning.
Come along and meet Dawna and hear more about this great program.
Dawna will be at the My Time cake and coffee session on Thursday 31st October at 9.30am
