Dear Mudgeeraba Special School Families,
End of Semester One report cards would have come home today, so please check your child’s bag. Along with the report, you will also find a copy of your child’s personal details. We ask that you carefully review this information and return any updates to the school early next term to ensure our records remain accurate.
This semester, we introduced a new reporting process designed to better communicate student progress and growth. We encourage you to take some time to reflect on your child’s achievements and development. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher early in Term 3. Your partnership is vital in supporting the best outcomes for every student in our school.
It has been a very busy semester, and next term promises to be just as exciting, with highlights including Science Week, Book Week, and our annual Sports Carnival, which will be held at Somerset College on 13 August.
We would like to inform you that Rhea Scott, Kerry Appleton and Leah Van Zyl will be leaving the school for the remainder of the year. While it is always difficult to say goodbye, we are incredibly grateful for the contributions they have made to our school community and the positive impact they’ve had on our students. We wish them all the very best in their next chapters and will ensure a smooth transition for the students in their care. Further details around staffing arrangements for Term 3 have been shared with families.
Wishing all families a safe, restful and enjoyable winter holiday. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, 14 July 2025.
Yours Sincerely,
Renée Zhu
Principal

Upper Middle 1 has been having a fantastic time this term, engaging in a variety of fun and meaningful learning experiences across different subjects and activities. Students have been actively engaged in developing their reading skills through daily guided reading sessions and independent practice, helping them build confidence and comprehension. In Mathematics, they are focusing on counting strategies and learning about the value and importance of money through hands-on activities and real-life scenarios. Alongside academic learning, students also participate in a range of other activities such as basketball, which supports their physical development, teamwork, and coordination skills.

Senior School Partnership Breakfast
We had a lovely time connecting with our business partners at breakfast on Thursday 19 June. Thank you to our guest speaker Amanda Hartmann, Speech-Language Pathologist, who talked about AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) to enhance inclusion and learning for all students. Thank you to all our staff for supporting our students to showcase their skills and make it a wonderful event.

It is with pleasure that we invite children between the ages of 5 - 14 to participate in our Sony Foundation Children’s Holiday Camp.
There is no cost involved in participation.
The Camp is a three-day residential camp for children with intellectual and physical disabilities. It is to be held at Loreto College – 415 Cavendish Road, Coorparoo QLD 4151 on September 20-22 September 2025. Campers will meet at Loreto College, to a time conveyed closer to the camp.
The Camp provides three days of care, friendship and entertainment for the children. It also provides respite for families, as senior students, who have taken on training, volunteer to take on the role of Companions for the camp. Each participating child (the camper) has two full time companions who are in turn supported by a team of staff, volunteers and medical facilitators. The Camp offers extensive on-site facilities, medical staff and care of the highest standard.
For the children, the Camp is one of fun with a day at Dreamworld, art, cooking, musical activities and an outdoor adventure.
If you know of children and families who would benefit from participation in the camp, could you please provide them with the enclosed information package. Alternatively, they could contact Mrs Kerri-Anne O’Neill on 30101115 or sonycampapplications@slc.qld.edu.au for an application package.
